It's been 4 long years since we last posted from Russia, and wow, the world seems entirely different. Are blogs still a thing? Let's pretend they are, at least for now. Humor us, and hopefully we will send some much needed humor your way as well when we're in South Korea!
It's been a new set of challenges with this Olympics. No visas required, but the hotel and vacation rental markets were difficult to navigate and understand, especially with the construction of the high speed train making some Olympic bound folks think Seoul might be the better spot to stay. But in the last week or so, more spaces have become available with better pricing, so onward with the bookings!
We have a new friend along for the adventure, Lesley!! Lesley is excited to experience her first Olympics, and we're excited for the fun we're going to have with her!!
We managed to get tickets to men's figure skating, and I'm sure many of you think, "men's? The ladies is clearly better!" and you won't get any arguments from me on that. We chose the men's event because of a young superstar on the rise named Nathan Chen who features an obscene number of quadruple jumps in his program and is the dark horse of the Games. If he can skate his best, we might see gold again! (We also chose men's because the women do not have medal chances that are particularly good-Gracie Gold dropping out, Ashley Wagner continuing to just irritate me for no particular reason). You guys-we will have seriously great costumes for this event-make sure to tune in! We are still hoping to get Snowboard halfpipe tickets, but for some reason, they are being real pains in the ass to acquire (at least the lower pricing bracket)!
Things we (or rather, I) am looking forward to experiencing in Korea!
-Fried chicken
-Bibimbap
-Gochujang sauce on SOMETHING
-Karaoke
-Austria House!
-Better food and beer than the Sochi concessions (just thinking about it makes me want to puke)
We're on the road to prepping for the games, weather wise, as well. Evidently, not wearing a winter coat is not usually a "thing" at the Winter Olympics. According to experts and past Olympic attendees, the Winter Olympics are generally held in a winter location during the winter. Huh. Who knew. With that being said, does anyone have any favorite winter wear brands to keep our feet, hands, and bodies toasty warm during competition? We literally only have 1 event indoors (skating), so we will need all of the advice we can get!
Make sure to watch for us! We'll be the cute ones all decked out for the USA!!! USA!! USA!!
